James River has always been an industry leader with its innovative safety and training programs. It will continue this strategy by installing seat belts on all of its motorcoaches by Spring 2013. This initiative is one of the company’s unique safety and training programs that include:
- A driving simulator
- Extensive background checks covering national and local databases
- Pre-employment personality testing to ensure compatibility with corporate values
- A customer service training department.
Earlier this year, the Federal government made it mandatory that all new buses be equipped with seat belts. The government does not require seat belts for existing buses already in service.
James River had planned the implementation of seat belts for many years, but had to wait for the government’s final rule to ensure correct compliance with the regulations. The company’s smaller buses have been equipped with seat belts for many years.
“We feel it is important for us to set the standard in safety for our passengers. This will ensure all of our buses are consistent, even if purchased before the seat belt law”, said Stephen Story, President of James River Transportation.
